Keith
but So use you you use paper?

00:00:06.68
Buddy
Yeah.

00:00:09.55
Jeremy
I bet he's got a fax.

00:00:11.74
Keith
um bet you do too.

00:00:13.59
Jeremy
ah Who, me?

00:00:14.58
Keith
You got to fax, don't you, buddy?

00:00:16.22
Buddy
i Well, yeah yeah, I've got i've got ah of like a four in one. It's probably about, oh let's see.

00:00:23.64
Keith
no no No, no, no, no, no.

00:00:23.88
Buddy
Damn it.

00:00:24.64
Keith
What he's saying is you actually use all of the fours in the one.

00:00:30.62
Buddy
Yeah, well, I don't yeah i don't have the fax hooked up anymore because nobody uses it, but I so i have to scan something and send it in. Oh,

00:00:38.74
Jeremy
you know You'd be surprised at how many medical facilities still use fax.

00:00:42.90
Buddy
oh yeah, yeah.

00:00:43.61
Jeremy
And anytime I hear a business say, yeah, you can fax it, I immediately think, I don't want to do business with these people. That's... as if

00:00:50.52
Keith
No, that's right. That's right. Because I remember my doctor last year was saying, yeah, have them fax it over to me. Yeah, I remember that.

00:00:56.20
Jeremy
Yeah.

00:00:56.84
Keith
That's right.

00:00:56.95
Jeremy
Yeah. Now I do know a lot of older doctors say that because that's what they were used to. And some of them actually mean um email.

00:01:08.44
Jeremy
um But for some reason, and I haven't quite figured out why, unless it's just something a little bit more secure, um And a lot of medical facilities and ah medical care systems still use facts.

00:01:23.38
Jeremy
And that's oftentimes the only way they accept stuff. I'm like,

00:01:27.61
Keith
I wonder if that's because of the it has the original document. It's an actual, the original document is right there instead of it being like in a digital form.

00:01:36.57
Jeremy
it might be.

00:01:37.30
Keith
It's an actual picture of the of the actual document. I don't know, maybe.

00:01:41.05
Jeremy
Might be. I don't know.

00:01:41.91
Buddy
Well, i have to sign I have to sign this paper, so...

00:01:44.95
Jeremy
Yeah, but why not scan it?

00:01:45.08
Keith
Yeah.

00:01:46.26
Jeremy
Well, you can scan it. Yeah.

00:01:47.77
Buddy
Yeah, and it I don't know. It's ah it's a W-9, so I have to physically sign it and date it.

00:01:52.66
Jeremy
Oh yeah.

00:01:55.74
Keith
Yeah, but um my I don't have it. I mean, I don't really have a use for it now because I'm i'm not really any any any kind of a system. But I know that on my computer, I can just hit signature and my signature will pop up and I can put it anywhere on a document.

00:02:08.54
Buddy
Oh, shit. You're technically advanced.

00:02:09.27
Keith
Just paste.

00:02:09.54
Jeremy
Yeah. Yeah.

00:02:11.48
Keith
Just paste on a document. So you bring up the W-2 and it says, you know, it'll have like sign here and my computer knows. I click on it and signatures will come up that I have done.

00:02:21.52
Keith
And then I can just grab one, pull it, slide it down, drop it in.

00:02:22.22
Jeremy
Mm-hmm.

00:02:25.11
Jeremy
Yeah.

00:02:25.50
Buddy
Oh, yeah.

00:02:25.71
Jeremy
Um, I know PDFs now you can, create a digital signature kind of like the ones that when, like, cause like when we in the military, when you sign something using your, what we call a cat card or your ID card, it creates this digital signature with some codes and some stuff like that.

00:02:26.49
Buddy
off

00:02:30.54
Keith
Yeah. Yeah.

00:02:41.51
Jeremy
You can do the same thing now, in windows, uh, using your computer credentials and you can do it that way.

00:02:47.90
Keith
Oh, yeah. Cool.

00:02:49.24
Jeremy
Yeah. All right. So what are we discussing today?

00:02:54.01
Keith
Well, obviously not cool shit. We're talking about nerdy stuff right now.

00:02:57.58
Jeremy
Hell yeah. Hell yeah. I think we're talking about prepper rookie mistakes.

00:03:04.31
Buddy
ah

00:03:04.66
Jeremy
That's what we are talking about.

00:03:05.43
Keith
That is correct. First year or or more, but first year prepper rookie mistakes. We've all done them.

00:03:11.16
Jeremy
Oh yeah.

00:03:11.22
Keith
And that's what we're going to talk about. So who would like to jump in? what go ahead.

00:03:15.86
Buddy
Well, shit, I made a rookie mistake just the other day, so with the gasoline. So I think, yeah, you might, you might continue making them, you know.

00:03:21.46
Jeremy
Nerd.

00:03:24.92
Jeremy
yeah Trust me, you do. Because when you're caught in a massive hurricane for some reason in the mountains and you don't have anything, that was definitely a rookie mistake.

00:03:32.98
Keith
Those aren't rookie mistakes. It was a rookie type mistake, but not the type we're talking about.

00:03:40.95
Jeremy
Well, that's true. Okay. Uh-huh.

00:03:42.64
Keith
We're we're talking about prepper rookie mistakes. Like, you know, i i spent every last time that I have on an underground bunker.

00:03:52.99
Keith
You know, I mean, like that kind of thing. You know, like, yeah.

00:03:55.40
Jeremy
Nice.

00:03:56.02
Buddy
And it floods. I cut corners and didn't waterproof it and now it floods.

00:03:57.41
Keith
Yeah.

00:03:58.65
Jeremy
Mm-hmm. Well, I'll jump in and um um I would say that I have a formula. um It's called S over S equals F. It is stuff over skills equals failure.

00:04:16.70
Jeremy
um I know that for a lot of people who enter into this type of lifestyle, being prepared, living the life of a quote unquote prepper, Um, they are motivated by fear because there's a lot of fear mongering out there. There's a lot of, there's a lot of stuff on YouTube and Instagram and the Facebooks and all of the things and people freak out without digging into more information.

00:04:44.92
Jeremy
And when they when they make the decision to start living this lifestyle, they go out and they spend butt tons of money on a bunch of gear and a bunch of things. And then they set it aside and they say, I'm ready for the war.

00:05:00.41
Jeremy
Well, they don't learn how to do anything with it. They don't learn how to do the stuff that you need to know. They don't learn how to properly build a fire or they don't learn how to defend their property or their stuff. They don't know how to...

00:05:13.64
Jeremy
procure and clean water, procure food and all those things. So staff over skills will always equal failure. That's, that's the very first thing.

00:05:23.93
Keith
I like that formula.

00:05:24.62
Jeremy
Yeah.

00:05:25.25
Keith
That's pretty cool. I'm envisioning it my head like s over S equals F. Because i mean it would be like 3 divided by 3 is 0.

00:05:34.27
Jeremy
Yeah.

00:05:34.55
Keith
you know it's that That's a great formula.

00:05:34.78
Jeremy
Yeah. yeah

00:05:35.91
Keith
I like that.

00:05:36.98
Jeremy
Yeah. And um I actually thought of it in a way here. got to jot that down, patent that one. um

00:05:42.74
Keith
Yeah, you should.

00:05:43.51
Jeremy
No, but um I mean, it's and it's a common thing. I have fallen trap into, of course, I've been living this lifestyle since basically i was a kid. But I have fallen, you know, for the next shiny object. I have fallen for that, you know, gee whiz, knick-knack doodad that I've just got to have.

00:06:01.59
Jeremy
um But I have a lifetime of skills that I've learned and practiced. um So the stuff that I end up having now is practical.

00:06:15.58
Jeremy
um A lot of it is repurposed. A lot of it is made... the way I want it to be because, you know, as an individual, I like stuff to be a certain way.

00:06:27.06
Jeremy
And i think a lot of people think that one kit fits all and it it just doesn't. It really doesn't. So yeah, S over S equals F.

00:06:38.04
Keith
I had that same thing down from my first one. was I just put you know buying a ton of gear before learning how to use it, basically. It's the same thing. oh And by the way, I'm going to correct myself. Three divided by three is not zero. It's one. But we you get you get what I was thinking.

00:06:54.46
Keith
Three minus three, that's zero. But anyhow, anywho.

00:06:57.02
Jeremy
and so I told you with your bad math because that's how bad at math I am. ah

00:07:03.93
Keith
But yeah, i get I get what you're saying. Go ahead, David.

00:07:06.10
Buddy
Yeah, that was my first that was my first one as well. You know, people focus on gear and not skills. and And we've preached on it over and over and over. We've had guests come on, they say the same thing and validate what we're what we're saying. So definitely, you know, focus on on that gear, you know, and and you know I'll even add a caveat to that. Spend a lot of money on something that, you know, you're not going to. Going out and buying a ham radio,

00:07:32.57
Buddy
you know the whole system spending thousands of dollars on it, you know and a tower and all this stuff, and then you know never get your ham license or not even learn how to do it. so

00:07:43.67
Keith
yeah that's a good point you know like you're you're they saying like uh uh your first year out prepping and and you decide to get yourself you want to get a bushcraft knife because that's what you see on all the videos everybody's got a great bushcraft knife so you go out and you buy 300 bushcraft knife Okay, great.

00:08:01.02
Keith
Now, A, you don't know how to use it. That's the first thing. So you're probably going to destroy it. And B, you're probably going to lose it like most of us do when we lose our knives. Don't buy a $300 knife first time out.

00:08:13.34
Keith
that just That's a rookie mistake.

00:08:16.47
Buddy
Yeah, I agree. That's definitely, uh, and you know, the thing about knives is, uh, you don't really have to have, you know, a $500. Now I do have a few knives that are, you know, more expensive.

00:08:26.07
Keith
No. No.

00:08:29.34
Buddy
Um, but my favorite thing to do, and I got to go to track.

00:08:31.66
Keith
That's because you enjoy knives. That's because you like it. You enjoy it. That's that's what you decide to spend your money on.

00:08:37.88
Buddy
Yeah. and And I'll go to a tractor supply and you know that, and I've, I've mentioned this before. They have those couple of tables when you walk in the door and, uh, you can get some pretty good knives for you know nine ten dollars you know twenty dollars is tops i've i've ever bought a knife out of there so um you know it's just and then you know learn how to sharpen the damn thing um

00:09:00.73
Jeremy
Mm-hmm.

00:09:01.14
Keith
I love those glass cases with all the knives in it. And yes, ah ah ah yes, ah Jeremy, I did say David, I meant buddy. So we'll have to cut, I'll have to cut all that out. Um, but no, I do love those glass. You know, it's funny. There's a place, um, downtown is actually, there's actually like three or four of them. They're massive. They're called Ozark land.

00:09:18.62
Buddy
Yeah.

00:09:18.82
Keith
And you've heard that before.

00:09:19.73
Buddy
I've been to those. Oh, I've been to them.

00:09:20.79
Keith
Yeah. They had that great ice cream store in the back and all that kind of stuff.

00:09:24.92
Buddy
Yeah.

00:09:25.36
Keith
Uh, right when you walk in, there's usually like this gigantic, massive glass sort of square thing. It's filled with knives and little gadgets and things like that. i love that stuff.

00:09:36.66
Buddy
Yeah. There's, there's one right off of, uh, 44, I think, um, by Springfield maybe.

00:09:43.22
Keith
Yes.

00:09:44.09
Buddy
Yeah. So, um,

00:09:45.88
Jeremy
Is that a store?

00:09:49.05
Buddy
Yes. Yeah.

00:09:49.33
Keith
It's kind of like a, I would i would say it's more like a, ah like a tourist kind of a thing. but they there's but they french ties them so like downtown where we go shopping and everything there's one right there in the middle of town it looks like a giant red barn it's massive it's all built up and it's got like across the front it says fudge ice cream you know knickknacks this and that and you walk in it's very busy with stuff everywhere t-shirts this and everything that you would think of for you know like like a tourist place and then they've got you know ice cream in the back they got candy fudge you know like a fudge making thing in the back and all that kind of stuff and a little area you can sit and eat in the, at least the one that we go to.

00:10:30.97
Keith
I haven't been this year, but they're pretty fun. I like them.

00:10:33.85
Buddy
yeah Yeah, there's a bass tracker over there too, I think. Or at least it used to be, I don't know. as It's been a couple years since i've been there. so

00:10:44.31
Keith
So yeah, I digress, which I did.

00:10:48.79
Buddy
Easy to do on this show.

00:10:50.51
Jeremy
Mm-hmm.

00:10:50.75
Keith
Mm hmm. I had down and mine were not any type of an order. I was just jotting on the top of my brain. One of the rookie mistakes I made back in the beginning was, of course, the gear thing, number one. um But I also started stockpiling food.

00:11:05.98
Keith
You know, I did the whole five gallon buckets, mylar bags, which, by the way, is awesome. Do it. Don't only do it, but, you know, definitely do it. But I did the whole thing where, you you know, you got your five gallon buckets and this one's got the rice, this one's got the beans and and so on and so forth. And i I forgot completely back in those days, I forgot completely about water.

00:11:27.51
Keith
I just wasn't thinking. I just was like food, food, food. You need water more than you need food. So that's something about.

00:11:33.82
Buddy
Yeah.

00:11:34.87
Jeremy
Yeah. Yeah.

00:11:36.14
Buddy
And we talked about that on the, we talked about that on the proper pantry other night.

00:11:36.30
Jeremy
I think a lot of,

00:11:40.48
Buddy
So

00:11:40.63
Jeremy
yeah, I think a lot of people do that because,

00:11:44.12
Keith
Did we? I think I slept through that whole episode.

00:11:48.66
Buddy
maybe like we always do.

00:11:48.95
Jeremy
we I think we went off the rails a little bit here and there, but I think a lot of people for some reason think about food more than water because food is easier than water.

00:12:03.77
Jeremy
Like they don't, I think that a lot of people believe that they're going to be able to find water no matter what, but they're not going to be able to find food. And

00:12:15.00
Keith
If you're savvy and you're you're trained and like what you know the buddy always says, your area area study and and you know know your stuff, yeah.

00:12:21.75
Jeremy
Yeah.

00:12:24.16
Keith
you know Especially if you're military trained, you you probably have been taught how to find clean or whatever water, that sort of thing.

00:12:24.57
Jeremy
Yeah.

00:12:31.22
Jeremy
Yeah.

00:12:32.18
Keith
But you're absolutely right. The very first thing you're thinking of is that comfort. It's like, I don't want to miss you know ah candy bars. I don't want to miss peanut butter. I'm going to get lots and lots of peanut butter. you know It's like, you're right, yeah.

00:12:44.86
Jeremy
yeah

00:12:45.27
Buddy
You know, and here's how easy it is to go out and do, you know, an area study for water or that portion of it. yeah Just go on and do a Google, you know, aerial map of your area and just look at all the water features out there. And then you want to not just stick with your map because it could be a year old and that might not be there.

00:13:05.24
Buddy
um Then go and drive and see what's around it. you know, make sure that, you know, there's not a farmhouse that was covered in trees that you didn't see in that aerial, aerial map. Um,

00:13:15.96
Keith
Yeah, go do the same thing. Get on Google Maps and or Google Earth, one or the other. Use your um your satellite view of your neighborhood, your area, and just jot down or map out all of the swimming pools.

00:13:28.89
Keith
Those are all sources of water, every single one of them.

00:13:32.02
Buddy
Yeah, swimming pools, ponds, a lot of, at least where I live, ah it's a the thing to do to, and there's a lot of building going on. So there's, ah you know, housing additions going up left and right.

00:13:44.92
Buddy
well There's always, and we've talked about it. also We've talked about this in, you know former episodes and stuff. But there's drainage ditches and they make ponds out of them and they make recreational ponds out of the drainage ditch and everything flows to a certain area to where and they'll sometimes they'll stock pile you know fish in it.

00:14:06.97
Buddy
They'll stick, you know, pavilions out there so you can have, you know, picnics and stuff. So that's kind of the thing.

00:14:14.90
Keith
Yeah, that's part of civil engineering. they they they have that Cities are always concerned, at least that department is, always concerned about where the water's going to go. Because you know you're not thinking about it on a dry day or a sunny day. You're thinking about it on days where you've got torrential downfall and stuff starts to flood. So you're right. They've got these areas where they... You know, well, I think I mentioned um the very last project that I worked on, huge building in place, that it was going in right in an area where they had what you're talking about, a drainage area. So our company actually had to build the cistern underneath the ground, of underneath the buildings.

00:14:50.65
Keith
So we had to actually build where the water reservoir was going to go first because it was there and then build the buildings on top of it.

00:14:50.74
Buddy
Yeah.

00:14:57.33
Keith
And you would never know that it's under under your feet. Ten feet under under your feet is a massive, you know, thousands and thousands of probably three or four hundred thousand gallons of water area underneath your feet.

00:15:09.82
Buddy
Yeah.

00:15:09.91
Keith
Yeah.

00:15:09.94
Buddy
and And another thing to do is is go out there and and, you know, Google the water table in your area. you might be able to dig down 20 feet and hit water.

00:15:21.02
Keith
Yeah, right.

00:15:21.59
Buddy
if If you could do a floodplain map, usually

00:15:23.90
Keith
I never thought about that. You're right. Yeah.

00:15:25.91
Buddy
um

00:15:26.22
Jeremy
Yeah.

00:15:27.06
Buddy
a growing up, we had certain areas on the farm where, you know, we're, we're digging a corner post and, you know, they go a little further down, they're a little thicker and you get down about, you know, eight, 10 feet, we're hitting water, you know, it's, it's crazy.

00:15:41.59
Keith
Yeah, the corner post got to be pretty deep.

00:15:43.64
Buddy
So, ten you know, we we put them down 10 to 12, depending on what size we have, if we're using telephone poles or whatever, but I digress. And yeah, you you can hit water sometimes that way too.

00:15:53.90
Buddy
So that, you know, don't sleep on on that. And then if you can find somebody who's a witcher, be their friend because they can, which is a dowsing, yeah, we call them witchers here.

00:16:03.38
Keith
Oh, dowsing. Yeah. Yeah.

00:16:07.06
Buddy
And they take, you know, the dowsing rods and go out and find water and stuff. So um it's, you know, it's literally under your feet in most places. So, you know, don't sleep on that. So.

00:16:17.40
Jeremy
Yeah, you don't have to dig far around here to to hit water.

00:16:20.47
Buddy
Yeah, i can imagine.

00:16:22.10
Keith
Yeah. an internet s htf type of a situation ah your neighborhood, you might have houses that have pools or you might have ah subdivisions that have pools or you might have apartments that have pools or city pools. Not only are these places, these are basically cisterns for water, but they also have every single one of them, every one of them across the board guaranteed to have some sort of a closet or ah you know control area where all of the filtration is.

00:16:54.33
Keith
So you've got filtration equipment, you've got um you've got chemicals, you've got chlorine, you've got acids, you got stuff like that that you can use to also filter you know filter water. We're talking about we're talking about in no rule of law, everything has gone to shit kind of a situation. These are very expensive pieces of equipment that you can actually use or take and use and and claim them to be yours and actually run them and and clean your water systems.

00:17:25.06
Buddy
Yeah, it's a and I mean, go but fill your bathtubs up.

00:17:25.33
Keith
Every one of them.

00:17:29.02
Buddy
if You know, something's coming your way, you know, just as a precautionary.

00:17:31.93
Keith
Oh, short term.

00:17:33.11
Buddy
Yeah, precautionary thing.

00:17:33.20
Keith
Yeah.

00:17:34.75
Buddy
They make blivets. You can. ah

00:17:36.54
Keith
The bladders.

00:17:37.56
Buddy
The big bladders you can fill up, you know, temporarily, you know, maybe stick it in your garage or in a in a room somewhere and fill them up and, you know, have 10, 20, 30 gallons of water in there. Just make sure you don't bust bust it. You're going to have to get some new carpet. But um

00:17:53.14
Keith
ah You know, those those bladders is best if you just keep them right in the in the tub.

00:17:57.24
Buddy
Yeah, yeah.

00:17:57.94
Keith
You know, fill them up. You got some major, major storms coming through that that they're worried about, which is great. This time of year, you know, it's happening. But, um you know, you fill those suckers up, throw a couple tablets in it, close it off and seal it. You're done. End of the storm comes, you't you know, no worries about Just empty it out, you know, dry it out and and then restore it.

00:18:18.04
Buddy
Yeah, and everybody focuses on water purification. You know, I'm gonna have to use a Grail water purifier or

00:18:24.95
Keith
You might, though, in a long-term SHTF situation.

00:18:27.80
Buddy
Oh, you definitely, you need those skills, but you, the I mean, before, before that, you need to know where the water is.

00:18:29.00
Keith
Yeah. You need the skills. Yeah.

00:18:35.49
Buddy
I mean, that's, to me, it's common sense, but, you know, common sense isn't common anymore, so.

00:18:35.99
Keith
True. True.

00:18:41.94
Keith
Yeah, do some fun stuff and like you know get a buy a little $25 still off of Amazon and learn how to distill your own water. you know Just do some fun stuff like that so at least you're in the know. um I've never really been, my entire life, I've never really been a a small a small engine mechanic. I've tinkered here and there and this and that, but I have been working nonstop. I mean,

00:19:06.71
Keith
Crazy, crazy lengths of hours on the on these mowers that I've got here with all kinds of problems. And I'm thought about it this morning. Little by little, I'm feeling more and more confident about getting my hands into engines and working on stuff now. I can i can ah recite, you know, ah temperatures and... and um specific types of torque you know requirements and things like that now that never could before.

00:19:31.37
Keith
and and I know what certain things are that i didn't know last year. It's the same thing with your with your experiences with water purification or really any kind of skill.

00:19:34.58
Buddy
Okay.

00:19:40.57
Jeremy
Yeah.

00:19:41.62
Buddy
Yeah, and just layer it. Make sure you have many different ways of doing it. And it's it's a whole nother episode. And we're going to have one coming up. So, um and I think we're all pretty well versed in it. But, you know, water is important. Food is important.

00:19:57.82
Jeremy
Yeah. Well, my next one was preparing for the wrong thing. And, you know, it's it's easy to say, i am preparing for the zombies.

00:20:11.06
Jeremy
I am preparing for the communist horde. I am preparing for aliens. I am preparing for the most wazoo sh**.

00:20:20.57
Keith
The Chinese.

00:20:21.66
Jeremy
the Yeah, the Chinese. But in reality, you what a lot of people do is they ignore the local threat.

00:20:24.98
Buddy
saying that

00:20:31.06
Jeremy
they They ignore the long-term power outage, the storms. you know i live here on the Eastern Coast, and a lot of people that do live this lifestyle, they are they're you know they're like, man, i'm just ready. You know, if anybody comes down my driveway, I'm going to line them up. my That's awesome. That's really cool. But you lost your job. What are you gonna what are going to do about that part?

00:20:55.58
Jeremy
Like you lost your, your main source of income um and you're still healthy enough to work. so what are you going to do now? You know, you, um,

00:21:06.66
Keith
you're You're describing the difference between a doomsday prepper and a prepper survivalist, basically.

00:21:10.82
Jeremy
Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's, it's, it's an easy trap to fall into, especially in as much as I, I, I think that that show had its nuance, you know, the, the doomsday prepper show or whatever it was, it painted us to be absolute weirdos. It really did. Um,

00:21:33.73
Buddy
We kind of are though.

00:21:34.90
Jeremy
I mean, that's true. You are, but, i um,

00:21:37.62
Keith
I still love thinking about it and prepping for and you know considering different type of scenarios that would fall into that whole genre all the time.

00:21:48.38
Jeremy
Yeah.

00:21:48.38
Keith
but But like you just said, the reality, though, is losing your job, not having it. you know that sort that's That's the reality of prepping.

00:21:53.34
Jeremy
Yeah.

00:21:55.80
Jeremy
Yeah. yeah So that was my next one.

00:22:00.20
Keith
Self-reliance, basically.

00:22:01.72
Jeremy
Yeah, basically.

00:22:02.96
Keith
Yeah.

00:22:03.98
Buddy
That's a good one.

00:22:06.07
Keith
What do you got? You got anything, buddy?

00:22:07.74
Buddy
Man, um what he what he spoke about was that area importance of an area study again. Keep keep harping that point. But, you know, that's another another point on your area study. i And, you know, people do plan for, you know, the big event and not the most likely event.

00:22:27.22
Buddy
My area, it's this definitely the weather, weather over everything. And then, you know, then we can worry about the chai comms and the zombie apocalypse and the communist hordes and stuff like that.

00:22:42.43
Buddy
So pink old commies.

00:22:42.65
Jeremy
and pinko commies.

00:22:44.89
Keith
The hybrid Russian-Chinese aliens.

00:22:47.86
Jeremy
Can you imagine?

00:22:49.69
Buddy
From China.

00:22:51.64
Jeremy
yeah oh my gosh, man. That'd be like, so like, like eight foot long necks with very short arms and thick legs. It's just's just a weird, really weird look.

00:22:59.84
Keith
carrying AKs.

00:23:03.17
Jeremy
Yeah. Go ahead.

00:23:04.89
Keith
Yeah, I don't want to meet them.

00:23:06.10
Jeremy
yeah but

00:23:06.42
Buddy
Yeah, and so I was just going to say that you know it's ah more about the area study there that you know a lot of these things all um coincide with the area study.

00:23:07.48
Jeremy
go ahead

00:23:18.39
Buddy
you know what's What's the most likely event in your area? you know Is it seasonable? Are you know you're coming up to another season? We've we've done episodes on, okay, winter's coming. We've got to prep for it.

00:23:32.47
Buddy
spring's coming, we got to prep for it. Summer, you know, we're always in a tornado season in Oklahoma. um Jeremy, you have heard hurricane season there.

00:23:40.25
Keith
Yeah, pretty much.

00:23:42.91
Jeremy
Yeah.

00:23:43.64
Buddy
Looks like you guys got some flooding there in Missouri, Keith. and

00:23:47.77
Keith
Oh, yeah.

00:23:48.73
Buddy
And so it's what's the most likely thing that happens, the thing you need to prepare for. And, you know, as a secondary, I would say, and and you're going to do your own things, and we know that, but I would say to be smart about it and and stick with that most likely thing.

00:24:05.50
Buddy
And then the secondary thing, okay, then go buy your ammo for the, you know, the Chaikom, Pingo Kami horde that's going to come and steal your Licky Chewies from your storage.

00:24:12.93
Keith
Mm-hmm.

00:24:14.23
Jeremy
Yeah.

00:24:17.14
Jeremy
And, and by preparing, you know, for, let's just say one of the big things here on the East coast, like you said, is hurricanes and preparing for hurricanes, kind of like we learned in Helene and other storms, especially like say, for instance, um the one down in Louisiana years ago. um

00:24:36.70
Buddy
Yeah, no, I can't.

00:24:36.95
Jeremy
Her yeah, that one. And,

00:24:38.62
Buddy
Hurricane, Hurricane, it's gonna go Katrina, yeah.

00:24:41.46
Jeremy
Katrina, holly, are we terrible people? um

00:24:44.89
Buddy
Yeah, it was getting old, I think.

00:24:46.94
Jeremy
Some of the stuff that you would prepare for, you know, thinking about the quote unquote zombie horde might be a second or third to order effect of preparing for the most likely scenario.

00:25:01.08
Jeremy
Like, for instance, when I was up at Helene and we were out there doing search and recovery for a family um that was swept away in a house, we we essentially knew before we even started that we were not going to find their bodies.

00:25:15.38
Jeremy
We had a pretty good idea of where they were. But um in talking with the family who who still had hope, um they told us that there was a small outbuilding um that and I don't know why they did this, but They stored their guns in this little outbuilding.

00:25:33.40
Jeremy
And after the storm, somebody broke in and stole all the guns, which prompted us.

00:25:37.87
Keith
Oh.

00:25:38.56
Jeremy
Yeah. Which prompted us to go into this search and recovery operation fully armed and kitted up. Um, so.

00:25:49.10
Buddy
That's just going to Appalachia, man.

00:25:51.03
Jeremy
Oh, you yeah. I mean, and you got to think as soon as you go just a little, if you go further west of where I am right now and just start heading north, that is that you're in Appalachistan.

00:26:04.82
Jeremy
it's it's interesting because When we got up there, was very, very mountainous up there. And i started thinking to myself, you know, if I had had all of this stuff with me, when that horde of people started walking up the road, I would have felt a whole lot better about the situation that we were in.

00:26:22.52
Buddy
All right.

00:26:27.00
Jeremy
um Because I was the only one with a gun. It was the only one who knew how to use a gun. And there were thousands of people wandering the road trying to find cell signal. And they ended up right in front of the hotel that we were stuck in.

00:26:43.26
Jeremy
So by preparing for, you know, and Helene might be the exception because that wasn't supposed to happen. But by preparing for the primary threat in your area, when let's just say that is hurricanes,

00:26:56.76
Jeremy
you know, thinking about the second and third order effects of that, you might still be preparing for some of those other, you know, kind of not as likely nuances. So, yeah.

00:27:11.96
Keith
Well, you know, and and he talks about the area studies a lot. I never even knew what area study was until Buddy started talking about them. But i say that.

00:27:19.44
Jeremy
Hmm.

00:27:21.40
Keith
But every single – remember, I traveled a lot for my my company, going from city to city, living there for a while, moving on to another city during – doing construction. And I could tell you the very first thing we do whenever I got to the city and new place was map it out, start driving, driving around, seeing where things go, learning how, how the, where the roads go.

00:27:37.08
Jeremy
Yeah.

00:27:40.90
Keith
It's kind of like a, like a, a fun outing really just to kind of see, Oh, look, there's a pizza place right over over there. where you know, there's the car wash, there's the hospital, that sort of thing. Technically kind of doing an area study, you know, live right there.

00:27:53.09
Keith
That's, that's what I, that's what we would do.

00:27:53.40
Jeremy
Yeah.

00:27:55.27
Keith
So yeah, great idea.

00:27:57.18
Jeremy
yeah And militarily, we call that a route reconnaissance. um A lot of people, when they hear that word, they think that you're just looking at your...

00:28:00.60
Buddy
Nope.

00:28:06.04
Jeremy
looking at a map and, you know, figuring out your route and then, you know, that's how you're figuring out what you're doing. But a route reconnaissance is so much more than that because you're figuring out the terrain, you're figuring out how the terrain flows, how you can go to certain places, what places may hold danger.

00:28:24.38
Keith
where the where the potholes are.

00:28:26.23
Jeremy
Yeah, basically. So,

00:28:27.64
Buddy
choke points, uh, bridges. You're looking at, you know, how, how, what's the, what each bridge can, uh, take as far as weight goes, you for rolling larger equipment in, you know, like you mentioned Helene, when I was there, we, we did that exact same thing, um, just by proxy.

00:28:37.08
Jeremy
Yeah. Mm-hmm.

00:28:49.56
Buddy
Um, they knew I had recons and stuff. They go, Hey, can you do a route recon on, uh, this area? And so we flew a drone up and, Flew alongside and we had driven up this road and then we flew the drone in after the fact, rookie mistake. And there was the the river, the Null Chucky had undercut that road to where we were. yeah I'm surprised we didn't cave it in and go down into the river.

00:29:15.10
Buddy
So, you know, we're we're kind of getting in the weeds here.

00:29:17.69
Keith
Good to know.

00:29:18.04
Buddy
But yeah, so.

00:29:19.28
Keith
That's good.

00:29:20.22
Buddy
But yeah, the the that reconnaissance is is paramount, at least in my world.

00:29:25.15
Jeremy
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Keith, what else you got?

00:29:31.26
Keith
ah One of the mistakes I made early on, i would say it's probably first, and maybe second year, but first or second year ish, was i I storing some food. um I improperly stored food and I got major pest and and infestation and I'm not even remembering. was so long ago. I can't remember now if it was bugs or if it was mice. I think I want to say what might've been mice.

00:29:54.78
Keith
But anyway, I had a lot ah lot of dry storage ah food type stuff and did not store it properly, just sort of stockpiled it. And going from, ah you know, back in those days, I was kind of moving from apartment to apartment and that sort of thing. and I remember, you know, putting it all in cardboard but you know boxes and and moving and and getting to the next place and setting it up. And know after a while, you're just keeping it in cardboard boxes and you're not you know remembering stuff. And then next thing you know, it's all eight. It's gone.

00:30:20.69
Keith
It's destroyed in your, you know, that was a pretty big rookie mistake because you spent a lot of time, not all at once, but you spent a lot of time, little at a time, little bit of money at a time building up these food supplies and to not store them right and then ruin them. That's heartbreaking.

00:30:35.13
Jeremy
Yeah. Yeah, that does suck. Um...

00:30:40.52
Keith
It's a lesson learned.

00:30:40.66
Jeremy
I I've, I have had, um, I have had some MREs and this was quite some time ago. Um, and I had them sitting in the garage and I had them up off of the cement, but they got put in there during the cooler weather and I kind of forgot about them.

00:31:01.62
Jeremy
And um I was getting ready to go do a contract and I was like, you know what? I don't know if they're going to be able to give us any, so going grab a couple and started getting in there. And there was a family of critters in there and they had eaten in there into the box and then eaten into almost every single bag.

00:31:24.60
Jeremy
So,

00:31:24.84
Buddy
Oh wow.

00:31:25.53
Jeremy
yeah it was uh it was mice or you know something along those lines i don't think we have rats but we definitely have mice and um yeah they got their way in there and i was like oh well that's going into the fire pit i'm pretty sure there was some mice in there when i tossed it in the fire pit but i just i just burned it all plastic and everything i was so i was so angry yeah

00:31:44.52
Buddy
Eee! Eee!

00:31:50.74
Jeremy
But um and and a lot of people, you know, they don't they don't think about stuff like that. I didn't think about that you know kind of thing at the time because it was cold. You know, I didn't think about the fact that mice like to come indoors when it's super duper hot or when it's cold. and That was just sitting there. there Rodents in general never stopped chewing.

00:32:11.67
Jeremy
they're They're always chewing on something. So in order to prevent themselves from grinding their teeth down completely, they find stuff to chew. And so they like cardboard.

00:32:22.94
Jeremy
They found their way into the cardboard. They found their way into the plastic and they were like, oh, something's in here. And they just kept going and it was pretty bad. So um yeah, I would say another big one and that a lot of people don't think about, especially when it comes to a long-term scenario is sanitation.

00:32:46.30
Jeremy
And I'm not a hundred percent sure why people don't think about that.

00:32:46.81
Buddy
Oh, yeah. That's a good one.

00:32:51.77
Jeremy
um But

00:32:53.64
Keith
stockpiling a teepee? What are we talking about here?

00:32:55.32
Jeremy
Well, I mean, more than just that. So, you know, long term scenario, ah you know, everybody talks about the the power outage or if the grid goes down and that kind of thing and you lose water pressure.

00:33:07.42
Jeremy
Well, there's this what I personally believe is a little bit of misinformation. People think that that water is going to continue to flow for at least a few hours.

00:33:18.55
Jeremy
And I don't think that that's actually accurate. I think that that water is going to stop flowing within a matter of less than 30 minutes. So when you lose your power and you lose your pressure, um you can't flush the toilet normally.

00:33:32.92
Jeremy
So what you can do is what's what we call pressure pressure flush, where you put water into the bowl of the toilet to force it down. Some of them still will do that without the pump.

00:33:46.26
Jeremy
um But a lot of people don't really think about the fact that if there is a no kidding situation going on outside, you still got to take a crap. What are you going to do with it?

00:33:57.36
Jeremy
You're just going to in your living room and find a spot and take a dump. You know, they, they, they don't know how to dig a slit trench. they They don't know how to flush the toilet afterwards.

00:34:12.98
Jeremy
um They don't know how to set up a bucket toilet, you know, and setting up a bucket toilet is super simple. It's literally a big bucket with a toilet seat, a contractor bag and some kitty litter.

00:34:25.98
Jeremy
That's literally all you have to do. And then once it gets to a point where you need to get rid of it, you bag it up again and you take it out and you get rid of it. So sanitation is a really big one.

00:34:35.00
Keith
Yeah, we we we have two. It's still in boxes, still all you know sealed up. Not even the bucket parts, just the lids with all the with the paper and the chemicals and all that kind of stuff ready to go.

00:34:41.04
Jeremy
Mm-hmm.

00:34:46.94
Keith
All you do is find a five-gallon bucket, which are freaking everywhere. We've got dozens upon dozens you know here at the property. um But yeah, that's a great, ah great, ah great way to look at it. um And what you're talking about with, um with water is you said that, you know, once you get into an SHTF situation or grid down situation that you think the water is going to, what did you mean by that? Like the water would end quickly.

00:35:11.10
Jeremy
So, you know, when when there is a an overall, a large outage, right? And let's say the local water system, there're they typically have backup generators.

00:35:25.03
Jeremy
But when the power goes out on those stations and the stations lose pressure, the pressure is only going to continue to push fresh water into your home for a very, very short amount of time.

00:35:40.63
Jeremy
And then.

00:35:41.14
Keith
Oh, OK, yeah. So ah to clarify, because you're saying it right slightly, to clarify, the the the pumping stations pump the water into water towers, not to your homes, into your water towers, all. This is how all places do it. We get every single home that's on city water, get your water pressure from the water towers that you see when you're driving around. That's why you see so many water towers. take a Go on Google and do a a screenshot, any type of a screenshot of the tops of buildings in New York City.

00:36:14.39
Keith
And what will you see on every single building?

00:36:17.59
Jeremy
Oh yeah.

00:36:17.78
Keith
Every one of them.

00:36:17.99
Jeremy
There's cisterns. There's cisterns up there.

00:36:19.15
Keith
there's what their water tower There are water towers on every single one.

00:36:21.02
Jeremy
Yeah.

00:36:21.67
Keith
just do Some are old wooden-like ones. Most of them actually are the old type of wooden-like ones that that are round. They all have them. That's because water that you get comes from the pressure coming out of water towers. And generally, those water towers are filled up ah by the city water and in the middle of the night when times are slower. And they pump the water up into those tanks, and it just sits up there. But that that weight of all that water up inside that tank coming down through those pipes, and the you know the pipes get smaller and smaller, obviously, because you can look at a water tower and see that.

00:36:56.95
Keith
the The head pressure is extremely high at the bottom.

00:37:01.57
Jeremy
Yep. Yep.

00:37:01.70
Keith
That's the pressure of the water at the at the smallest um orifice that you can get out of those water towers. And that head pressure is how you get water pressure. And I can say right now, you you run into a situation where you have the grid goes down and the power is completely out. It is not going to take long before that water pressure diminishes. It's going to slow soon as those water tanks empty out and there's no water going up in them.

00:37:27.02
Keith
they're You're done. And that's just a matter of how many people are using water. That's just what it comes to.

00:37:31.32
Jeremy
Yeah. Yeah. um and And I think that, you know, back to the sanitation thing, um i don't understand why some people don't learn that that aspect of it, you know? i don't know why.

00:37:49.05
Jeremy
i haven't quite figured it out that why, and ah if you start having this conversation with somebody, And you're like, well, you know, hey, what are you going to do about sanitation, you know, after, you know, something big happens and they equate sanitation to cleanliness?

00:38:06.20
Jeremy
And I'm like, okay, I understand that. But we're going to go take a crap, you know?

00:38:10.95
Keith
It's an age thing. I think it's an age thing. It comes with age.

00:38:12.95
Jeremy
Yeah. Yeah, that's true.

00:38:15.04
Buddy
Well, also, it's, you don' you don't really think about it when you go to the restroom. How many times did you go yesterday? You know, you don't really think about it.

00:38:23.89
Keith
Mm-hmm.

00:38:23.98
Buddy
You just go and do it. It's not really

00:38:26.35
Jeremy
Mm-hmm. Right.

00:38:26.68
Buddy
Something, I mean, unless you have have to track it for a doctor's appointment or something. You really don't.

00:38:30.90
Jeremy
right

00:38:32.50
Buddy
It's just something that, you know, you're not spending a lot of brain space with it.

00:38:36.25
Keith
If you find yourself having to, being forced to poop outside in the in the woods, in the forest, behind a building, whatever it is, if you find yourself having to do that because you didn't prep properly, you're going find out really, really quick how uncomfortable it is to not have stuff to wipe your butt clink properly.

00:38:53.72
Jeremy
yeah

00:38:53.85
Buddy
It sucks. It just sucks.

00:38:55.02
Keith
That's what I'm saying is you you think in your house, you you know you go you go you do your business, you clean up, and you you feel and you're refreshed for the day. You're good. Try that if you have to poop outside somewhere.

00:39:04.38
Jeremy
Yeah. Yeah.

00:39:05.29
Keith
you're An hour later, you're going to stank.

00:39:07.77
Jeremy
Yeah. Or if you're someone like me, you know, like um I have, I don't have a gallbladder.

00:39:14.39
Keith
keep the Keep the grossness down. keep the go the gro keep it Something happened to you in your past that has caused you to have to go total nuclear grossness.

00:39:16.01
Jeremy
I'm not going, I'm not going to go. Yeah.

00:39:25.56
Jeremy
Yeah. I was in the army for a stupid amount of time. um But i I don't have a gallbladder anymore. And I'm also, I also had, yeah, my, my gallbladder ruptured many years ago.

00:39:34.10
Keith
Is that right?

00:39:38.17
Buddy
Oh,

00:39:38.52
Jeremy
um And I ended up losing course the gallbladder, but I, they had to remove, I want to say like a foot or a foot and a half of a necrotic intestine.

00:39:52.18
Jeremy
So um

00:39:54.50
Buddy
it will run through you quick then.

00:39:54.71
Jeremy
for Yeah. So for me, everything is a one way street. Um, so again, sanitation, it's, it's really important. And, um, if you are someone kind of like me who are, who does have digestive issues or has, you know, certain things,

00:40:11.93
Jeremy
you know, some people are like, yeah, I only go once a day. And that's wonderful. If you, if you only go once a day, God bless you. If you're someone like me who goes about six times a day, then you got to be prepared for that kind of thing.

00:40:25.94
Jeremy
So

00:40:26.33
Buddy
Yeah, that's ah a great episode for us to do, like a field sanitation episode.

00:40:30.55
Jeremy
yeah. Yeah. After you get your butthole checked.

00:40:33.46
Buddy
ah Yeah, yeah.

00:40:33.59
Jeremy
Yeah, exactly. Yeah.

00:40:37.30
Keith
<unk>s like that It's like that that me that meme I sent you where where they said to the doctor, doctor, the entrance of my butthole always hurts.

00:40:37.52
Jeremy
i've

00:40:38.30
Buddy
okay

00:40:44.62
Keith
And he says, well, you stop calling it an entrance.

00:40:46.68
Jeremy
Yeah.

00:40:46.66
Keith
It'll stop hurting.

00:40:47.64
Jeremy
Yeah. Fix the traffic pattern. Pain might go away. ah

00:40:51.99
Keith
ah ah

00:40:53.27
Jeremy
I've got, I've got one more um and that is becoming addicted to prepping. um you know a lot of yeah so a lot of people they get into this thing and it is fun it is exciting it it can be a really neat passion you know to to live this lifestyle but if you dive eyeballs first into this thing it's easy to become hooked on it i know people who live this lifestyle 24 7.

00:41:03.39
Keith
Oh.

00:41:26.78
Jeremy
You know, like you can't, you can't even just run into them randomly in a in a store or whatever and have just casual conversation. It just always goes back to the same thing. I know a guy I don't know what exactly happened to him in his past, but he to work out the sniper school. And for some reason, every time we would get to chat and especially if we were anywhere near grass or the woods, he would immediately take a knee.

00:41:57.11
Jeremy
And I'm like, bro, we're not, it's not like that right now, man. It we're, I'm doing burgers out here. Why are you taking a knee right now? Like it's, it's,

00:42:07.56
Keith
I'm confused.

00:42:08.89
Buddy
ah That's some indoctrination there, man.

00:42:08.93
Keith
What did I miss?

00:42:11.42
Jeremy
that is buddy, buddy probably knows what I'm talking about.

00:42:11.57
Buddy
Holy shit.

00:42:15.50
Jeremy
so

00:42:15.50
Buddy
I know exactly what you're talking about.

00:42:17.17
Jeremy
and When you go to certain schools, when you, when you live the military lifestyle, especially like buddy and I have, and you learn certain aspects about combat when you're out and exposed, it's kind of like instinctual to lower your posture and find cover and concealment.

00:42:36.47
Buddy
Lower that profile.

00:42:36.78
Jeremy
It's, ah it's just, it's something broken in our minds that I'll just put it that way.

00:42:38.64
Keith
Oh, now I know what you're saying. Sure, sure. Yeah.

00:42:43.93
Jeremy
But

00:42:43.98
Buddy
Well, it's the stuff that kept us alive in combat kills us in the civilian world, so.

00:42:44.06
Keith
right

00:42:47.96
Jeremy
Yeah, it really does. Like I am 100% convinced that if I went to go, like I've got this job interview tomorrow, if it was just with normal people, they'd be like, bro, you are, there is something wrong with you.

00:43:02.34
Jeremy
But thank goodness it's mostly military people. um

00:43:07.29
Buddy
Yeah, I...

00:43:08.54
Jeremy
But, you know, being hooked on this, this lifestyle, this, this thing of prepping, it can happen. And you know, you got the, the person out there who's like, man, you know what? I could really use another bug out bag and they go shopping for the most ridiculous thing. and And they they love it, like they get off on it. But the thing is, is you're living an anxious life. You're you're living a lifestyle waiting to be able to use this stuff that you have stashed and and you know use these skills that you learn and that's great.

00:43:45.82
Jeremy
But there's more of a likelihood that there's going to be like a tree down in your yard and kills your power, or there's going to be a big storm and you're going to get, you know, your whatever is going to get hit by lightning and kill the power.

00:44:01.24
Jeremy
There might be, and you know, localized flooding, you know, that kind of thing. But they're always in anticipation of this, this crazy thing that may or may not happen. Now I, I totally understand it and I get it And I also, i have some of those, those concerns, but I'm not going to let it rule my life.

00:44:26.33
Jeremy
You know, like if I get to the point where i really feel like the war, you know, quote unquote is about to start. Okay. You know, I might keep an extra eyeball open here and there, but yeah i' i am not so into this thing that I can't enjoy the rest of my life.

00:44:47.19
Jeremy
If that makes sense.

00:44:47.74
Keith
I get exactly what you're saying. And ah i I know a guy who used to be a friend of mine years ago. um And he's a prepper. And he he's an ex-Marine. And I went through some hard stuff. And he I spoke about it before. And he um he wakes up every day hoping.

00:45:06.76
Keith
that this is going to be the day it's, it's gone further than, than, uh, than what you're saying. It's gone to the point where he, he's like, when's it going to happen? When, when, you know, when can we start doing all this? When's it going to, you know, when can I use all these skills and when, when can it happen? And that can actually become,

00:45:23.03
Keith
ah um can can yeah, well, it can be mental illness for sure, but it can come it can become contagious to other people.

00:45:24.31
Buddy
Mental illness, maybe?

00:45:32.09
Jeremy
Yeah.

00:45:32.22
Keith
You know, like yeah I felt it rubbing off on me. Like, yeah, I'm prepped too. I'm ready to go too. I started feeling that sort of the same thing. And ah very quickly in my brain, luckily it changed to hell no, I don't want this to ever happen.

00:45:46.59
Keith
I don't want to ever have to you know, scrounge and, and, and survive. I don't want to do that. I want to thrive as a whole different ball game.

00:45:52.82
Jeremy
Yeah. yeah

00:45:55.16
Keith
It is very, very, it's a, it's a, it's a, I think a lot of the doomsday prepper people that you saw on those shows years ago, i think a lot of them were, you know, pushed and and produced and coerced and directed to be a little more crazy than they were, but there were were a few on there that were really over the top and their brain had clicked to that other side.

00:45:55.55
Buddy
Yes.

00:46:16.28
Jeremy
Yeah. I mean, would I, if I was rich enough, would I have a large family compound set up for defense, potentially offense, you know, mass food production, total independence from the system? Yeah, absolutely. I would. I absolutely would. If I had the right amount of money, i would have a bunker.

00:46:40.92
Jeremy
and it would be like fucking cool as hell, but i don't have that kind of money. And most of us don't have that kind of money. And to be honest, I, I, as much as I do live this lifestyle, which I do, um, I don't want it to control my, so my life or my actions, you know?

00:47:05.66
Jeremy
um, I don't know. It's just in in that kind of addiction can lead to, and we've called it analysis paralysis, prepper paralysis.

00:47:16.50
Jeremy
It can lead to that because you're like, all right, today's the day. Well, it's, it's fricking Tuesday. Today wasn't the day, you know, it's like, and then it you you're thinking, okay, today's the day.

00:47:27.90
Jeremy
And it wasn't today. And then you just keep going through that. and you're like, well, if it's never going to be the day, screw this, you know, I'm done. And you've got this mountain of stuff. Like if you go on Facebook marketplace and you would be shocked at how much, uh, you know, freeze dried food and all these things that preppers are always looking for is, is on Facebook marketplace because somebody bought it thinking that something was going to happen and it never did.

00:47:57.14
Jeremy
You can always find stuff there. Yeah.

00:48:00.21
Keith
That's very true. Yeah, that's good point.

00:48:01.30
Jeremy
Yeah. Yeah.

00:48:05.14
Keith
oh What else you got, buddy?

00:48:07.58
Buddy
All right. Well, um kind of what you were saying a minute ago, but I'll give a caveat to it. You know, you need to know, you need to take inventory of your stuff. You need to know what you have and you've spoken to that. But also I think it might not be a rookie mistake, but looking, looking at it by a predator standpoint, know,

00:48:33.11
Buddy
Putting everything, all your eggs in one basket, storing all your stuff in one place might be a little bit little bit of a mistake. you know I've talked about caches before.

00:48:43.99
Buddy
um I like to place things in different areas, different places. to you know like buck i have buckets of food uh at different places hey i've i've have family that i'll just go give it to them and say hey hold on this for me i might need it one day they're like what is it just stick in the closet you know and but let me know where it is kind of thing um so i think putting everything in one in one place is is a mistake uh watch your storage definitely um

00:48:59.44
Keith
That's awesome.

00:49:17.24
Buddy
One of the things Jeremy mentioned a while back on an episode was to make sure you have your documents, your important documents, and like a fireproof safe um and accessible to where you can use it because, you know, you might have to prove who you are.

00:49:24.88
Jeremy
Mm-hmm.

00:49:37.30
Buddy
um, one day, you know, if it, if it gets really shitty around here, um, just to prove you're U S citizen, even though you can speak, can habla the English, um, and you know, you don't have your dog tags, uh, tattooed on your body. You know, you might have to actually, you might have to actually prove who you are. Now, uh, I know somebody really, i know somebody very close to me that has that, as ah those, those would call blood tags.

00:50:05.11
Buddy
Um, and, uh, has got arrested and and that's how they, you know, they're like, how do I know that you and the person said, well, who's going to be dumb enough to put somebody else's dog tags on their body?

00:50:19.06
Buddy
So, I digress again, but, um you know, have your documents where you can get to them because you might have to prove certain things. You might to prove that you live there. If if one of the things I did with some tornadoes that I worked in college when I was in National Guard, tornadoes that came through these different areas, if you didn't have an address, a license with your address on it in a certain area, you wasn't getting into it.

00:50:44.66
Jeremy
Yeah. Yeah.

00:50:45.18
Buddy
You know, if if you're even though you did live there, but you didn't change your license, you know, you used to live in Oklahoma City and this was said Tulsa. But you're trying to get to an Oklahoma City address, you know, it's not going work. So have those documents. you you You might need them. I guarantee you'll need something.

00:51:01.94
Buddy
But keep your documents where you can get them.

00:51:02.17
Jeremy
yeah

00:51:04.63
Buddy
A very important thing, I think. um And I looked at this and I was like, man, this is probably one of the most important factors there. You got to keep your family into the loop of all this. if If you have a family member not bought into the whole thing, it's only going work against you. You know, I met a lady who was a closet prepper.

00:51:26.30
Buddy
Her husband was like, oh, that'll never happen. You know, you're, you're, you're wacky. You know, you ought to go on those TV shows, you know, with all the doomsday guys and stuff. And she would sneak out to meetings of networking with people and stuff. Met her in an area study class, actually. She was doing her stuff, you know. Yeah.

00:51:46.84
Keith
Yeah, no that's that's a big one because ah I even have on here on mine because was thinking about some of the things that i I did. And one of the things for me was telling telling too many people.

00:51:58.07
Keith
Like, the you know, telling everybody and then also telling nobody.

00:51:58.39
Jeremy
yeah.

00:51:59.80
Buddy
Yeah.

00:52:02.59
Keith
Both of those can become – those both are extremes that you should stay away stay away from. ah You really do need to tell other people that, you know that are close in your network, in your circle, like what you're saying, your family of what it is you're doing. Number one, because you want to include them. That's all part of it. But you also want them to, ah to know, you know, where the stuff is in case you're not there or how to use it and that sort of thing, be trained up on it. And then of course the other thing is telling everybody that's, that's also a problem, you know,

00:52:33.69
Buddy
Yeah. And you got to pick and choose your battles. and And, you know, it's worked for me and it's worked against me in conversations I've had with people. And, you know, I'll bring it up and people know I prep and stuff. And, and you know, it's kind of a joke. Some people, but, you know, every once in while, they'll ask a question.

00:52:51.77
Buddy
You know, hey, you got all the medical stuff, you know, that we need if in case it goes, you know, this shit goes down. It's like, well, I might. What do you have?

00:53:01.20
Jeremy
Mm-hmm.

00:53:01.85
Buddy
you know, so, um and that's goes to the, you know, a segue into what I was next to talk about is you got to learn some medical stuff. If, you know, you have a bucket of band-aids, that's not gonna stop a a sucking chest wound. Well, if you have ah enough band-aids, it might stop the sucking chest wound. But, you know, if you get your arm sawed off or legs sawed off, a bunch of band-aids aren't going to cut it. So, And that goes back to what we talk about all the time is training. Make sure you get the training that you need and and medical training, you know, find ah a nice stop the bleed class as a minimum.

00:53:39.80
Buddy
um Next year I'm going out and I'm going to be traveling the United States teaching and I'll, ah I'll put the dates up there and we'll make sure we get a top spunker discount.

00:53:50.55
Buddy
And if you want me to come to your area and teach, hit me up on the instant message on the, on Facebook and, and we can make that happen. All I need a place and, and we can, we can come up with the details, but you know, so go out and get the training you need for all the stuff.

00:54:08.89
Buddy
One of the big things when we preach on this all the time, neglect your physical fitness and your mental resilience. Okay. um Don't, you know, we, I'm not even going beat that dead horse about the 500 pound rucksack that you can't carry, you know,

00:54:25.91
Buddy
go out there and and it's as simple as going and walking. It's extremely hot right now where I'm at. So I don't do good with the heat. So I have to go out every day for an hour or two, get in the heat and get used to it.

00:54:39.32
Buddy
Because if the, it damn near killed me, about you know, last week when the power went out, you know, inside it's it's getting up to the nineties and you know my body's just not, um' I'm old and and I've had some heat injuries,

00:54:55.29
Buddy
And, you know, I'm just I can't handle it like I used to. So go out and acclimatize yourself to things and especially the weather. um Let's see, go out and work out, too, man. You got to you got to be able to do the things. And it's it's it's almost as simple as can you climb a fence right now?

00:55:14.58
Buddy
Can you go over a stockade fence? Can you climb through a barbed wire fence? You know, these are things people don't think about, but can you do these things? Can you bend over and, uh, you know, come off the prone position firing since you're such a ninja, you know, uh,

00:55:32.92
Buddy
Navy SEAL ninja that you you know you've been – in your mind, you've trained this scenario that, you know, can you actually get the hell off the deck and and get up and and bound, three do a three-second rush and get back in position again and shoot?

00:55:35.93
Keith
I am in my mind.

00:55:39.04
Jeremy
Mm-hmm.

00:55:48.50
Buddy
Can you do that five or six times? Can you run from cover to cover? So these are the things you need to start thinking about. It's not about, oh, I can't go run a mile.

00:55:54.42
Keith
No, you know what? ah I'll add to that because Rhonda and I did some shooting this weekend with our our ARs and our rifles. And ah we did, um you know, just some target shooting, you know, standing up, not not like but bench style, but, you know, walking around, moving and shooting.

00:56:09.92
Keith
And damn, that's all workout. I forgot how much of a workout that is compared to sitting on a bench and shooting.

00:56:17.24
Buddy
Yeah.

00:56:17.60
Keith
It's a big work. Just holding the gun steady, you know, and trying to make it, trying to get your, your shot placement. It's, it's hard, man.

00:56:25.66
Buddy
Yeah.

00:56:25.88
Keith
You got, you got to practice that stuff.

00:56:25.94
Buddy
And ah well, it's said it's a total – yeah, go ahead.

00:56:27.60
Keith
They make it look really easy on movies.

00:56:29.75
Jeremy
Now, next time, well, was going to say next time, try that on the move, you know, while walking and then find cover and concealment and do that in an, in a successive bounding motion.

00:56:35.03
Buddy
Yeah.

00:56:43.29
Keith
Yeah, i well, I was trying a few.

00:56:43.76
Buddy
Yeah.

00:56:44.77
Keith
look Because i got trees and stuff like that, and was trying some of that. And I ended up more more oftentimes than not just leaning up against a tree because I was tired. i was like, well, we were on a hill too.

00:56:51.99
Jeremy
Yeah. Yeah.

00:56:54.27
Keith
But still, it it was rough. You know, it's funny because we were watching, before we went to bed last night, we watched um this really cool thing on Machu Picchu and and that sort of stuff.

00:56:56.28
Jeremy
Yeah.

00:57:04.82
Keith
And you see these... It's a lot of climbing. You got to walk a lot of steps up at these mountains and stuff. And you see all these people, they they go 10, 15 feet and then they stop.

00:57:16.08
Keith
10, 15, 20 feet and they stop. and um and know And I remember a time when I would have made fun of those people.

00:57:21.88
Jeremy
Yeah.

00:57:22.62
Keith
This is no longer that time.

00:57:24.31
Jeremy
Yeah. Yeah.

00:57:25.78
Buddy
Yeah, you need to stress test yourself.

00:57:27.13
Keith
just no

00:57:27.78
Buddy
You know, you need I've done it, man, ah in Mexico.

00:57:28.41
Jeremy
and

00:57:29.08
Keith
We both looked other like, we would love to go to Machu. Hell no. ah we're not going to be able to climb up that mountain.

00:57:39.27
Buddy
Yeah.

00:57:40.12
Jeremy
yeah

00:57:40.47
Buddy
And it wasn't that big.

00:57:40.46
Keith
you've done You've done what? you Oh, the on the you're on the ah pyramids?

00:57:41.87
Buddy
I've climbed those. Yeah, it sucks. I mean, it was hot too.

00:57:45.98
Keith
Yeah, I can imagine.

00:57:47.02
Buddy
It was hot. I mean, I was just wasn't into it, you know.

00:57:50.42
Keith
And they didn't make those pyramids for comfort.

00:57:50.74
Buddy
It was like –

00:57:52.02
Keith
They made them for chopping people's heads off. Those steps are not like normal steps.

00:57:56.34
Buddy
And they there were little people. So how the hell did they get up there? Did they have an elevator? You know, I have so many questions.

00:58:00.89
Jeremy
Well, my last time in Korea, you know, I'm not that tall, but um I was in extremely good shape.

00:58:01.17
Keith
Aliens, man. Aliens.

00:58:02.58
Buddy
I have so many questions.

00:58:10.33
Jeremy
And all I did was hiking and long distance running. And I'm out there one day, i probably got, I don't know, i had about 35 or 40 pounds on my back.

00:58:20.92
Jeremy
And I felt like I was trucking. And I got passed by a woman who had to be in her 80s.

00:58:27.54
Buddy
Thank you.

00:58:27.93
Jeremy
And she was hauling all of her goods to sell up up a mountain, like on her on her back and her head.

00:58:33.62
Keith
That's because she lives it every day.

00:58:33.85
Buddy
a

00:58:37.55
Keith
Right,

00:58:38.01
Jeremy
And I was like, i am weak. I am pathetic.

00:58:42.58
Keith
ah

00:58:42.70
Jeremy
And then I had to remind myself, I'm like, these are like short little mountain people. You know, that's this has been their lifestyle now for, you know, you know, thousands of years.

00:58:51.35
Keith
right. right

00:58:53.31
Jeremy
Some of the some of the the mountains that I actually climbed and then found, you know, these remote Buddhist temples. And we started coming down. and We found this like a series of steps and sort of doing some research on them. Those steps were laid there by the original Buddhist monks that went up to build these temples like a thousand years ago And we were walking, you know, we were going along and I'm like, whose fucking legs are this short?

00:59:27.85
Jeremy
I mean, I've got short little legs, but man, and they carried the stones up this mountain.

00:59:28.00
Keith
don't know.

00:59:34.49
Jeremy
Like they walked them up there and I'm thinking I'm strong. I ah definitely did not feel strong after that. Yeah. I was feeling pretty pathetic about myself.

00:59:42.62
Buddy
they had that mental resilience that I was talking about earlier.

00:59:45.18
Jeremy
Mm hmm.

00:59:45.18
Buddy
You know, you can, you know, have a physical, but you also need a mental. So they definitely, they,

00:59:49.27
Keith
that's definitely a rookie a rookie mistake you want to pay attention to is your fitness. It's something that i'm i'm in I'm in a bind right now with, but I'm no longer a rookie. But still, that's something I'm in a bind with right now.

00:59:59.73
Keith
It's something you should you should always really be thinking about. Mm-hmm.

01:00:02.54
Jeremy
It's a continuous thing though. It really is. You know, I was in damn good shape when I was when i was in Korea and I came back. And regardless of the fact that I was within the special operations community, I was not doing the same kind of physical fitness because, you know, i'm i'm unfortunately, I'm kind of inherently lazy. i have to force myself to do certain things.
